How multi-camera systems work and connect

Athlee Cameras are designed to work together automatically when used in a multi-camera setup. Depending on how your system is configured, the cameras will connect in different ways — either by creating their own Wi-Fi network or by joining a facility Wi-Fi.

Here’s how it works in each mode:

1. Factory Reset Mode (No Multi-Camera Sync)

When cameras are in factory reset mode:

Each camera creates its own unique Wi-Fi network (e.g., Athlee-ABCD).

These cameras do not detect or connect to each other.

Each camera must be accessed and streamed from individually.

This is best for testing or when using only one camera.

2. Mobile Athlee Wi-Fi Mode (Cameras Create Their Own Shared Network)

In this mode, cameras are pre-configured with a shared network name (e.g., Athlee Dolphins or Athlee Streaming).

Here’s what happens at startup:

  1. The first camera you turn on will become the host. It creates the network and acts as the hub for all traffic.
  2. Other cameras that are turned on afterward will scan for that network.
  3. If they find it, they join automatically as clients.
  4. Your iPad should connect to the same network to see all the cameras.

Important Tip:

If you turn on all cameras at the same time, they may all try to become hosts — creating multiple Wi-Fi networks with the same name. On the iPad, this can be confusing: The iPad only shows one network name, even if multiple networks have that same name. This can cause strange or unpredictable behavior in the app.

Best Practice:

Turn on one camera first. Wait 30 seconds. Then turn on the others. This ensures only one becomes the host, and the rest join correctly.

3. Facility Wi-Fi Mode (Recommended for Stable, Multi-Camera Use)

If your team has a strong 5 GHz Wi-Fi at the pool, you can configure all cameras to use it.

Here’s what happens:

  1. At startup, each camera looks for the facility Wi-Fi it’s been set up to use.
  2. If found, the camera connects as a client — no camera becomes a host.
  3. All cameras are now on the same network as your iPad.
  4. The Athlee app scans this network and finds all cameras automatically.
  5. This is the most stable and scalable setup — perfect for teams that use multiple cameras regularly.
